FELLOWSHIP 2008-2009
In its 84th year, the Women’s Fellowship continues as an
active, vital organization within the community of the United Church of
Christ of We have contributed to many community service projects, including the Samaritans, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Home Healthcare Services, Project Share, Center for Prevention of Domestic Violence, the Community Kitchen, Cedarcrest, Monadnock Family Services, RISE, New England Women’s Appalachian Mountain Project, North Country Helping Hands, the Keene State Campus Ministry, and Church Women United. Within our own church community, we have donated to our church’s Radio Ministry, the Youth Group’s mission trips, church youth camp scholarships, the Stevens Ministry, the Bell Choir, discretionary funds for the Senior Minister and his wife and the two Assistant Ministers, as well as for the Christian Education Superintendent and the Church Administrator, and several church property projects, including $5,000 toward the purchase of new audio/visual media equipment in the church and $1,200 for kitchen cleaning services.
Wider missions that we have supported this year include
These financial donations are supported by our two successful Rummage
Sales and our Christmas Fair to which many members of the church have
contributed. Karen Dill and a
core of Women’s Fellowship members sorted and displayed the many items
donated by the generous congregation.
The remainders of the The Women’s Fellowship continues to provide funeral receptions to bereaved families at a nominal cost. Jane Harris and Peg Fegley organize this very important service for us. This past year there were ten funeral receptions as well as a light luncheon for the mini-Church Retreat in January, 2009. Another service overseen by the Women’s Fellowship is providing flowers for the altar and the open door of our church. Jean Mansfield, Marge Richards, Diantha Dorman, and others have faithfully managed memorial flowers throughout the year and helped create large displays at Christmas and Easter, soliciting donations from the congregation or using Women’s Fellowship memorial funds. Program Chairperson, Peg Fegley, has found many interesting programs for our monthly meetings and should be congratulated for deftly managing several difficult scheduling situations. We have learned about the Wyman Tavern, local herbs, divorces and marriages in Cheshire County’s old records, sign language and songs, the spiritual development of children and youth, and Mary Rowlandson’s story of captivity among Native Americans in the 17th century. Debbie Craig, Betsy Zimmerli, and Joyce Barry organized delicious refreshments, luncheons or snacks, for our meetings, and also arranged for the annual Valentine Luncheon catered by Marsha Dubois. A new facet of Women’s Fellowship is the extension of meetings to include two Saturday morning meeting times to accommodate working women. We believe that this has been successful and we are happy that working women can also attend some meetings. The fellowship board members have met faithfully, working hard to provide programs, leadership, and projects. They have taken the lead in many projects, and it is a great pleasure to have worked with them and with the Women’s Fellowship these last two years. Respectfully submitted, Marlene Baldwin, President 2007-2009, Women’s Fellowship
